Azerbaijan Institute of Theology awarded media representatives
Azerbaijan Institute of Theology (AIT) organized an event dedicated to July 22 National Press Day.
The event was attended by MP Aflatun Amashov, Chairman of the Press Council of Azerbaijan; Jeyhun Mammadov, Rector of Azerbaijan Institute of Theology; heads of mass media and journalists.
AIT rector Jeyhun Mammadov welcomed the event participants and said the national press has entered a new stage of development in the country thanks to the policy formed by national leader Heydar Aliyev and pursued by President Ilham Aliyev. The Rector stressed that as in all fields, national leader Heydar Aliyev paid special attention to writers and journalists in 1969 -1982 and during the period after 1993. After the country gained its independence, the country marks July 22 as the National Press Day.
The Rector stressed that the publication of the newspaper Akinchi founded by Hasan bay Zardabi played a great role in the formation of national consciousness and unity resonating among people in the whole Caucasus. Jeyhun Mammadov highly appreciated media attention to the state-religion relations and called on media representatives to be more active to highlight the reforms in this area. He congratulated journalists for their active positions on the changes in the field of theology and religion on the occassion of July 22 National Press Day.
Congratulating media representatives, Aflatun Amashov, Chairman of the Press Council of Azerbaijan, said going through a complicated, but honorable developmental way, National Press has been an important means for educating people and promoting national values. He said the necessary measures have been taken to develop media in Azerbaijan.
A.Amashov emphasized that published under the editorship of Hasan bay Zardabi, the newspaper Akinchi gave new impetus to the formation of national consciousness in Azerbaijan. The glorious tradition formed by Akinchi 144 years ago, is being successfully continued by today's press.
A. Amashov further noted that Azerbaijan is a tolerant country and the role of the media in the promotion of this environment is prominent. He stressed that the activity of the media is important for the prevention of the attempts of negative forces that act under the cover-up of religion. He said media representatives have responsibility to promote national-spiritual and religious values and introduce religion in an unbiased way.
The event was organized at the International Press Center. At the end, the representatives of the media were awarded for their objective activity.
