History of Religions


The course focuses on the methodology and sources of the history of religions, and the world religions are arranged as independent topics. It will discuss Western religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Jainism, Daoism, Eastern religions, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. The course materials are based on the classical works of the history of religions, as well as the assesment of modern researchers’ analysis and interpretations.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • develop their knowledge on the world religions
  • acquire skills to analyze emergence and development of the world religions
  • acquire skills to analyze the belief system, worship, morality and social structure of the world religions
  • explain the role of religions in the formation of the world culture

The objectives of the course are:

  • studying the changes in faith, worship, morality and social structure system as the emergence of the world religions based on the methodology of History of religion
  • analyzing the interaction between religious and cultural values in the spread of religions.
  • studying the place of religion in the world culture
History of Islamic Culture

The course examines the place of Islamic culture in the world civilization history. Thus, it is designed to study the peculiarities, sources, stages of development and the study of current state of Islamic culture. The course materials are based on the assesment of modern researchers’ analysis and interpretations related to Islamic culture.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • acquire basic knowledge about the organizations and fields of Islamic culture
  • acquire the ability to analyze the role of Islamic culture in the modern world culture
  • improve the skills to compare and analyze the common cultural heritage of various civilizations

The objectives of the course are:

  • analyze organization and value system based on the History of Islam since the dawn of Islamic culture
  • compare the relation between Islamic culture and other civilzations in the development process
  • analyze characteristic features of Islamic culture
  • analyze the role of Islamic culture in the development of multiculturalism and tolerance values in Azerbaijan society
Comparative History of Religions

The course introduces methodology and sources of Comparative History of Religions and classifies major world religions according to different fields. Thus, it aims comparative study of faith, worship, morals, social structure system and other areas of the world religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Jainism, Daoism, Islam, Christianity and Judaism. The course materials are based on the Comparative History of Religion, classical works, analysis and interpretation of modern researchers on the subject.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • acquire skills to analyze the components related to faith, worship, morality and social structure system of the world religions comparatively
  • improve the skills to analyze similarities and differences in the emergence and development processes of the world religions
  • acquire skills to analyze the elements that impacted on the development process of the world religions comparatively

The course has the following objectives:

  • studying the differences between faith, worship, morals, and the social structure of the world religions since their emergence based on the methodology of the Comparative History of Religions
  • analyzing the interaction of religions with the values they receive from other religions and cultures
  • analyzing the differences between the notions of truth and its salvation in different religions
  • studying the problems that form sources for religious radicalism and tolerance in the belief systems of religions
History of Islam

History of Islam is designed for MA students specializing in Religious Studies-060214. The aim of the course is to study Jahiliyyah (the Age of Ignorance); the history of Islam from the time of Prophet Muhammad to the end of the Rashidun Caliphate in the frame of historical methodologies; political, economic and cultural history of the early Islamic period; religious, political, economic and social conditions in the Arabian peninsula during the emergence of Islam; the aftermath of Jahiliyyah in the development of the early Islamic civilization; the activities of the Prophet Muhammad in Mecca and Medina; political, economic, social and cultural conditions of the Rashidun, Amavi, Abbasid caliphates and Turkic Muslim states.

Introduction to History of Islam

The course is designed for MA students specializing in Religious Studies-060214. The aim of the course is to study Jahiliyyah (the Age of Ignorance); the history of Islam from the time of Prophet Muhammad to the end of the Rashidun Caliphate in the frame of historical methodologies; political, economic and cultural history of the early Islamic period; religious, political, economic and social conditions in the Arabian peninsula during the emergence of Islam; the aftermath of Jahiliyyah in the development of the early Islamic civilization; the activities of the Prophet Muhammad in Mecca and Medina; and improve students’ skills to analyze these topics.

Psychology of Religion

Psychology of Religion is designed for students specializing in Religious Studies-050214. The subject is integrated with Sociology of Religion, History of Religion, Sufism, Islamic Philosophy and Philosophy of Religion. The objective of the course is to explore the psychological experiences in religious behavior. It also provides students with the skills to discuss and analyze the studied information. Through the study of Psychology of Religion, students will develop the ability to independently analyze and discuss religious and psychological problems.

“İslam məzhəbləri tarixi” fənni “Dinşünaslıq” ixtisası alan tələbələrə III kursda 60 saat (45 s. mühazirə, 15 s. məşğələ) həcmində tədris edilir. Fənnin məqsədi – İslam məzhəblərinin yaranma və yayılma mühitininlərin görüşlərinin tarix metodologiyası çərçivəsində tədqiqi və öyrənilməsidir.. Fənnin vəzifəsi – tələbələrdə İslam məzhəblərinin yaranması, yayılması və əsas görüşləri haqqında təsəvvür yaratmaqdır.

Psychoanalysis and religion

Psychoanalysis and Religion deals with analysis of religion through Z.Freud’s psychoanalysis theory. The course is integrated with psychology. It aims to study religious factor in mental problems through psychological analysis of religion. It also enables students to discuss and analyze the studied information. By studying psychoanalysis and religion, students will be able to analyze and discuss religious and psychological problems and gain ability to produce independent outcomes.

Psychological Health and Religious Consultation

The course deals with the effects of religion on human psychology. It is integrated with psychology, which is directly related to the subject. The course aims to study positive and negative effects of religious factor in mental problems through psychological analysis of religion. Studying Psychological Health and Religious Consultation, students will learn solutions to religious and psychological problems, analyze and discuss these problems, support and assist people with psychological problems.

Statistics in Psychological Research

The course deals with the application of statistical methods in researches of psychology of religion. The course discusses topics such as analysis of statistical indicators related to the features of research objects, comparisons of statistical indicators and their mutual relations.
The aim of the subject is to understand and explain the relations between the object of research and its constituent elements by using statistical methods in psychological research. It also aims to study the use of statistical methods in the study of social sciences, especially modern statistical techniques and programs. Through statistics in Psychological Research, students will be able to analyze religious and psychological problems by statistical methods, analyze these problems through statistical tests and gain the ability to produce independent outcomes.

Development of Sociological Thought

Development of Sociological Thought is designed for MA students specializing in the Psychology of Religion. The course focuses on the development of sociological thought from historical point of view, analyzes the historical conditions for sociological thought and classical sociological theories. It also discusses the modern problems of sociological thought. The aim of the course is to study the emergence of sociological thought and the historical setting for sociological theories and to improve the ability of analysis for social, economic and political processes in our society and in the modern world.

Research methods

Research Methods focuses on the methodology of science. It deals with the classification of sciences and the use of the relevant methods for different sciences. The main objective of the course is to enable students to acquire the knowledge on Research Methods, study research methods in the field of theology in a systematic way and explore the problems related to religion profoundly and thoroughly.

Din psixologiyasına giriş fənni dinin psixoloji tədqiqi ilə əlaqəlidir. Bu dərslə bilavasitə bağlı olan ümumi psixologiya fənni ilə uyğunluq təşkil edir.
Fənnin tədris məqsədi dinin psixoloji təhlilini aparıb, psixoloji problemlərdə dini amili araşdırmaqdır. Digər məqsəd isə, tələbənin qeyd olunan sahələrdə əldə etdiyi məlumatları daha geniş perspektivdə müzakirəsini və əsaslandıra bilməsini təmin etməkdir. Din psixologiyasına giriş fənnini öyrənməklə tələbə dini-psixoloji problemləri ətraflı şəkildə araşdırıb, bu problemi təhlil və müzakirə etməklə, müstəqil olaraq bir sıra nəticələr qazanacaq.

Modern Problems of Psychology of Religion

Modern Problems of Psychology of Religion deals with the psychological study of religion. It is integrated with psychology which is directly related to the subject. The course aims to conduct a psychological analysis of religion and to explore a religious factor in psychological problems. Another goal is to ensure that the student is able to discuss the studied information. Through the study of Psychology of Religion, students will develop the ability to independently analyze and discuss religious and psychological problems.

Phenomenology of Religion

Phenomenology of Religion focuses on the explanation and interpretation of religion through phenomenological methods. The subject is interconnected with History of Religion and tries to explain religion with objective and descriptive methods. Phenomenology of religion is systematically studying categories of sacredness throughout history. The goal of the subject is to explore religions from the objective aspect and discover secret phenomena lying behind different beliefs and practices. Through the study of the subject, students will acquire knowledge about different peoples’ religious worldview and practices and master ability to approach them with empathy.

History and Methodology of Psychology of Religion

The course focuses on the application of various methods in research on Psychology of Religion. Apart from the comprehensive overview of the emergence of Psychology of Religion, it also discusses the study of research object by various methods, internal observation, external observation, biographic documentation analysis, questionnaire, interview and statistical analysis. The aim of the course is to understand and explain the relations between research object and its constituent elements through different methods in psychological research. It also mentions philosophy of social sciences and the importance of various paradigms in psychological research.

History of Modern Psychology-1

History of Modern Psychology-1 studies the emergence of psychology as a subject comprehensively. It covers the topics such as philosophical foundations of psychology and the impact of empiricism and positivism on the development of psychology as a science.
The aim of the course is to analyze the different trends of psychology through the work of psychologist researchers. The course focuses on the history of experimental and structuralist psychology created by the German psychology school, in particular V.Vundt. Moreover, it mentions the critics of sturctural psychology.

Psixologiya fənni psixologiya elminin ümumi qanunauyğunluqlarını, sahələrini, metodologiyasını öyrənir. Bu fənn Din psixologiyası fənni ilə qarşılıqlı əlaqədədir. Psixologiya elmi fərdin psixologiyasının ümumi kateqoriyalarını əhatə edir.
Bu dərsin tədris məqsədi isə, psixoloji hadisələri, şəxsiyyəti və fərdiyyəti başa düşmək və izah etməkdir. Digər məqsədi isə, psixologiyanın digər sahələri ilə əlaqələr yaradıb, fərdin bütün sosial və psixoloji həyatını izah etməkdir. Psixologiya fənnini öyrənməklə tələbə dini-psixoloji hadisələri, həmçinin insanın psixi həyatını təhlil etmək bacarıqlarına yiyələnə bilər.

Dinlər tarixinin metodologiyası fənninin əsas məqsədi dinlər tarixinin metodoloji baxımdan ən zəruri mövzularının, dinlərin tədqiqat metodlarının tarixi inkişaf və üsullarının öyrənilməsidir. Beləliklə, kursun sonunda tələbələrin böyük dünya dinlərinin tədqiq olunması ilə əlaqədar əsas məfhumları və nəzəriyyələri haqqında məlumatlı olması həm klassik, həm də müasir dini cərəyanların tədqiqi zamanı istifadə edəcəkləri metod və üsullarla əlaqəli analiz etmək qabiliyyəti yaratmaq kimi bacarıqlarının inkişafı nəzərdə tutulur.
Proqramda Dinlər tarixinin metodologiyasının sosial elmlərin bir sahəsi kimi təşəkkülü, istifadə etdiyi üsullar, mənbələri müstəqil mövzular altında göstərilmişdir. Tədris olunan materiallar Dinlər tarixinin sosial elmlərin bir sahəsi kimi tədqiq edildiyi elmi əsərlərin, həmçinin klassik dini ədəbiyyatın qiymətləndirilməsi əsasında hazırlanmışdır.

Dinlər tarixinin müasir problemləri fənni dinlərin tədqiqat metodlarının tarixi inkişafını və üsullarını tədqiq edir. Kursun sonunda tələbələrin böyük dünya dinlərinin tədqiq olunması zamanı qarşılaşılan başlıca məsələlər və nəzəriyyələr haqqında məlumatlı olması; həm klassik, həm də müasir dini cərəyanların tədqiqi zamanı istifadə edəcəkləri təhlil və proqnoz qabiliyyəti yaratmaq kimi bacarıqlarının inkişaf etdirilməsi nəzərdə tutulur. Proqramda dinlər tarixinin müasir problemlərinin müxtəlif din qruplarına görə təsnif edilməsi, dinlər tarixinin XXI əsrdə qarşılaşdığı metodoloji və məzmunəsaslı problemlərin həllinə yönəlik nəzəriyyələrə dair mənbələr müstəqil mövzular altında göstərilmişdir. Tədris olunan materiallar Dinlər tarixinin sosial elmlərin bir sahəsi kimi tədqiq edildiyi elmi əsərlərin, həmçinin klassik dini ədəbiyyatın qiymətləndirilməsi əsasında hazırlanmışdır.

Bu fənni öyrənməklə tələbələrin nəyi biləcəkləri, nəyə nail olacaqları və hansı vərdişlərə yiyələnəcəkləri qeyd edilir.
Məntiq elmi düzgün düşünmə və arqumentasiya prinsiplərini öyrənən elmdir. Məntiq fənnindən təqdim edilən proqram aşağıda qeyd olunan vəzifələri nəzərdə tutur:
a) məntiq elminin tarixini tələbələrə çatdırmaq;
b) məntiqin digər elmlərlə münasibətini müəyyənləşdirmək;
c) məntiq epistemologiya arasındakı münasibətləri öyrənmək.
