Conference on Contribution of Muslim Scholars to the Development of Science and Technology has started

The conference on Contribution of Muslim Scholars to the Development of Science and Technology organized jointly by Azerbaijan Institute of Theology and Yunus Emre Baku Institute has started.

Greeting the conference attendees, AIT rector Jeyhun Mammadov said that the development of science in our country is one of the main priorities of state policy. The future of the state, its economic, political and military power is directly related to its scientific potential.

The Rector stressed that great leader Heydar Aliyev’s policy of education is successfully continued by Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. “Recently, the state has implemented a number of events to develop the interest in science, improve its importance in the life of society and stimulate scientific activity. Significant progress is observed in the organization, management, development of scientific activities, support of innovations and stimulation of achievements ”.

The Rector said that since its inception, AIT attaches great importance to the promotion of our national-moral values, development of patriotic spirit, love for the country, study of the life and creative activity of prominent Azerbaijani thinkers.

Jeyhun Mammadov then said that Islam has always encouraged Muslims to study and improve their knowledge.

AIT rector emphasized in his speech that Azerbaijani scholars such as Sheikh Mahammad Bakuvi, Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, Nasiraddin Tusi and Ajami Nakhchivani are closely involved in the development of Islamic culture.

Cihan Özdemir, Director of the Yunus Emre Baku Institute, said that the Islamic world has educated outstanding thinkers who have illuminated the world of science with their inventions and left deep traces in the history of science. These scholars laid the foundation of today’s progress.

MP Govhar Bakhshaliyeva thanked the organizers of the event and mentioned the relevance and significance of the topic. G.Bakhshaliyeva said that the Azerbaijani people have educated great thinkers and historical figures in all periods. She noted that thanks to this tradition our people managed to keep their national memory despite all the challenges.

Mecit Çetinkaya, Chairman of the Professor Fuat Sezgin Islamic Sciences Historical Research Foundation, mentioned the importance given to science and the contributions made by Muslim scholars to world science. Speaking about Fuat Sezgin, one of the well-known Islamic scholars, M. Çetinkaya said that after the death of the scientist, the Republic of Turkey declared 2019 as the Year of Fuat Sezgin.

Gunduz Ismayilov, Deputy Chairman of The State Committee on Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, noted that thanks to the great value given to science in the 8th and 13th centuries Islamic countries, a number of scholars were educated and made great contributions to world culture.

Haji Fuad Nurullayev, Deputy Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, said that since its advent, Islam has struggled with ignorance and has encouraged Muslims for science, education, enlightenment as well as respect scholars.

Zeki Yavuzyılmaz, Advisor on Religious Affairs of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Azerbaijan, noted that historically, Muslim scholars living in the two brotherly countries have contributed to world science.

Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of Baku International Multiculturalism Center, emphasized the importance of events aimed at informing the younger generation about great Muslim thinkers and scholars.

Professor Ersan Aslan, Rector of the University of Kırıkkale, Coordinator of the “Fuat Sezgin Year” projects; Vatan Karakaya, Rector of Ahi Evran Kırşehir University and Professor Musa Yıldız, Chairman of the Board of Ahmet Yasevi University delivered speeches. The speakers highly appreciated the conference on Contribution of Muslim Scholars to the Development of Science and Technology and mentioned Professor Fuat Sezgin’s contribution to Islamic and world science.

Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees; Jafar Jafarov, Rector of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University; Director of the Cultural Center under the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan and Mukhtar Imanov, Director of the ANAS Institute of Folklore delivered speeches and wished success to conference. They said that Muslim scholars made great contributions to the world culture and created a bridge between science and friendship between nations.
