Attendees of II International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in Caucasia visited Heydar mosque

The attendees of the 2nd International Symposium on "Islamic Civilization in Caucasia" visited Heydar mosque.

The guests were informed that the mosque was opened in December 2014 and is the largest mosque in the Caucasus. Built on the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev who attaches great importance to the preservation of national and spiritual heritage, the mosque covers an area of 12000 sq. meters. The facade of the mosque has been decorated with special stones in Shirvan-Absheron architectural style and the richness of ornaments creates an architectural harmony on the facade. Four minarets with a height of 95 meters have been built. The interior of the mosque has been decorated with special decorative elements and the Guranic verses have been written on the edges of the cupola. The dome is fifty-five meters high including the second dome with a height of up to 35 meters which gives a special beauty to the mosque.

During the visit, it was noted that President Ilham Aliyev has paid special attention to the construction of the mosque, has been closely involved in the progress of the construction work giving relevant instructions and participated with his family at the opening ceremony. The Muftis of the North Caucasus attended the opening ceremony as honorary guests.

The guests were also informed about Wahdat prayers performed in the mosque. Wahdat prayer is a solidarity and peace message to the world where religious intolerance, racial discrimination and Islamophobia is widely spread.

The 2nd International Symposium on "Islamic Civilization in Caucasia" was held in the capital of Azerbaijan on July 11-12, 2019. More than 100 foreign scholars, researchers and experts on Islamic civilization in the Caucasus delivered speeches at the symposium.
