Istanbul will host a symposium on Ahmed bey Agaoglu, Outstanding Public and Political Figure of the Turkic World

On October 20-21, 2019, Istanbul University will host a symposium on Ahmed bey Agaoglu, Outstanding Public and Political Figure of the Turkic World organized jointly by Azerbaijan Institute of Theology, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Istanbul Branch of Türk Ocakları and Istanbul Institute for Turkic Studies. The event will be organized in accordance with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev’s decree dated April 10, 2019, on the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Ahmad bay Agaoglu.

The opening ceremony will be attended by Professor Mahmut Ak, Rector of Istanbul University; Jeyhun Mammadov, Rector of Azerbaijan Institute of Theology; Masim Hajiyev, Consul General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Istanbul; Ganira Pashayeva, Member of Parliament; Fazil Mustafa, Member of Parliament; Karim Mahammadzade, Prime Minister of the former ADR Fatali Khan Khoyski’s grandson; Mustafa Balci, Head of the Istanbul Institute for Turkic Studies and Cezmi Bayram, President of the Istanbul Branch of Türk Ocakları and other guests.

The symposium speakers include well-known Azerbaijani scholars along with Turkish scholars. Professors Solmaz Rustamova-Tohidi, Nasib Nasibli, Mubariz Suleymanli, Vagif Sultanli; associate professors Firdovsiyya Ahmadova, Lala Hajiyeva, Farhad Jabbarov and Dr. Akif Valiyev will deliver speeches on the life and creative activity of Ahmed bey Agaoglu, his activity in the parliament of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, his role in the socio-political life of the Republic of Turkey, his role in the establishment of the party Difai, literary and public activity, his thoughts on Islam and nationalism, national struggle and the expression of multicultural values in his creative activity.

It should be noted that the symposium is a continuation of the event held on September 19-20, 2019 at Azerbaijan Institute of Theology. The materials of the symposium on Ahmed bey Agaoglu, Outstanding Public and Political Figure of the Turkic World, which consists of the articles of more than 20 scholars, will be published.
